Seminar And An Open Discussion On Possible Domain Name Dispute Resolution Models In The Top Level ".lv" Zone.

Latvian National Group of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI LNG) and Latvian Association of Professional Patent Attorneys (LPPA) organized a seminar and an open discussion on possible domain name dispute resolution models in the top level ".lv" zone.
The seminar was moderated by the attorney-at-law Agris Bitāns, Chairman of the Board of AIPPI LNG. Seminar speakers
- attorney-at-law Andris Tauriņš with a presentation “Problems of Domain Name Disputes in Latvia. Exampleas of the case law;
- Jevgenijs Fortuna, a professional patent attorney with the presentation “A Simple and Successful Civil Case: How Much Does It Take? Challenges to be solved” and
- attorney-at-law Ingrīda Kariņa-Bērziņa with a presentation “National Domain Names’ Dispute Resolution in International Arbitration.”
The live discussion was attended by the representatives of the Network Solutions Department of the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science, University of Latvia, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Justice, judges of all three court instances, the members of the Industrial Property Board of Appeal and the representative of the Latvian Chamber of Commerce.
Participants of the seminar have agreed on the need to develop an inexpensive, efficient and expeditious legal framework that would allow for cancellation or transfer of a domain name where lack of the legitimate interest or bad faith of the holder of the domain name can be demonstrated. During the discussion, three main proposals were put forward on options for setting up a domain name dispute resolution panel.
